Discover the route

Wineries, wine presses and vineyards to get to know the wine of Fuencaliente and how it is grown on volcanic ground. The municipality has some 297 hectares of vines, a quarter of the island’s total, grown between 200 and 1,100 m on volcanic gravel, in creeping vines sheltered from the trade wind by stone walls, and it is the main stronghold of Malvasía, a grape whose origin lies in Crete. The La Palma Designation of Origin was recognised in 1994 and its Regulatory Board has its headquarters in Los Canarios. The selection includes the Bodegas Teneguía cooperative and family wineries such as Carballo, Victoria Torres Pecis, Mil7ochentaynueve and La Casa del Volcán, the traditional tea-wood wine press, the Wine Fountain and the landscapes of Llanos Negros and Las Machuqueras, with century-old vines. Confirm visits and tastings directly with each establishment.
