Juanito, passionate about the art of wood.
Juan Manuel Hernández Lorenzo, «Juanito», 54 years old, comes from the Los Quemados neighbourhood in Fuencaliente. Since childhood he has loved crafting things in both iron and wood. He calls himself entirely self-taught and loves the work of carving wood in everything he does.
He works as a forest worker with the chainsaw, and that has served him well. About two years ago, on a training course, he surprised his teacher by carving an eagle out of a pine stump; that was when the urge to create them took hold of him, using Canary pine and chestnut wood. With his imagination and his hands he can create true works of art. One of his eagles has stood for a few weeks now in the La Fajana park — an eagle donated by Juanito to this neighbourhood and his village, Fuencaliente. A true artist who expresses his art with wood and his hands.
