Culture in pictures
The culture of Fuencaliente is made with the hands and with the word. With the hands, at the Artesol Craft Centre and in the workshops of the craftswomen of embroidery, loom weaving, palm basketry and glass, and in the works of sculptors such as Gustavo Díaz, who turns scrap into art, and Juanito, who carves Canary pine and chestnut. With the word, in the décimas of the versadores, a living tradition that the Ruta de la Décima has taken to viewpoints and squares.
And it is celebrated: San Antonio Abad in January, Carnival with its talcum-powder battle, the Cruces in May, the Virgen del Carmen carried by boat at Puntalarga in July, the pilgrimages of the pines and, in August, the Fiesta de la Vendimia, with the Caballos Fuscos and the Viejas Solteronas of Los Quemados. Its landscapes of volcanoes, vineyards and sea have also made the municipality a film location. This section brings together the crafts, sculptors, festivals, traditions and film heritage of Fuencaliente.
