Puntalarga is a small bay on the south-west coast of Fuencaliente. The beach, of black sand and pebbles, is around 100 m long by 20 m wide. Some rocks and a small breakwater protect it from the sea, so the water is usually calm or slightly choppy, and beside it there is a natural rock pool. It is surrounded by fishermen’s huts, and it is common to see them at work.

Information

It is one of the most popular beaches in the municipality, especially in August. Next to it are the recreation area, with barbecues, tables, showers and toilets, and a kiosk-restaurant with a terrace. There is free, unattended parking for between fifty and a hundred cars. It has no Blue Flag and no permanent lifeguard service.

Every year, around 16 July, Puntalarga is the setting for the festivities of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of seafarers: after mass on the beach, the image is taken aboard a boat and sets out in a maritime procession to El Faro, where it is received before making the return journey. It is one of the best-loved traditions of the Fuencaliente coast.

It is reached by car along the coast road (LP-207), or on foot from Los Canarios along municipal Route 3, which passes through Los Quemados.
