The Cruz del Llano del Tanque is one of the emblems of the May cross tradition, which is especially deep-rooted on the island of La Palma. At the end of 2010 the Fuencaliente de La Palma Town Council, under mayor Gregorio Alonso Méndez, fitted out an outdoor leisure area at this spot near the neighbourhood of Las Caletas, offering a place of rest to local and foreign visitors alike. This recreational area completes the facilities of this kind in the municipality, such as the Fuente de los Roques and the Pino de la Virgen. It has a picnic area, parking, a children's playground, a storeroom, toilets, a barbecue, cooking stoves, drinking-water taps, natural stone tables and benches and the niche of the cross, which was also restored to coincide with the opening of the grounds in November 2010.
