El Puertito beach is on the south-eastern slope of the municipality, below the district of Las Caletas, at the end of a steep hillside. It measures about 75 m long by 10 m wide, is made of pebbles and boulders, and the wind almost always blows. The landscape is purely volcanic: the track that descends crosses the black lavas of the Búcaro eruption.

Information

It is a place with history. Here are the lupin-drying yards and the pits for curing them on the beach itself, as well as the threshing floors where flax and lupins were dried, and the fishermen’s huts and straw shelters. From El Puertito, on 7 April 1950, the sailing boat Nuevo Teide set out with 286 people on board, on one of the voyages of clandestine emigration to Venezuela.

It is reached on foot or by four-wheel drive along the track that leaves the Las Caletas road (LP-207) at kilometre 3: about 4.2 km and an hour and a half downhill. The waymarked SL FU 112 trail, Los Quemados – El Puertito (9 km, about two and a half hours), and municipal Route 5 from Los Canarios also come here. There are no facilities or transport: the return is on foot, uphill.
